Madesimo Italy

Madesimo is an Alpine resort that shares its ski area with Motta and Valle di Lei. The ski area reaches a maximum elevation of about 3,000 meters, making it one of the highest resorts in the Italian Alps. The mid-mountain station sits at 2,150 meters, while the base is at 1,550 meters, giving Madesimo a vertical drop of roughly 1,500 meters—placing it among the top ten Italian ski resorts in terms of vertical. On the sports side, Madesimo offers about 61 kilometers of skiable terrain across 33 runs: one beginner green run, 15 blue runs, 13 red (advanced) runs, and five black runs for expert skiers. A total of 12 lifts serve the ski area. Access to the resort is via the town of Madesimo in the province of Sondrio. The resort is part of the Valchiavenna Alpine area, one of the most popular Italian ski regions for British visitors. This area includes the towns of Madesimo, Campodolcino, Motta, and the Val di Lei. Madesimo is also known for its attractive off-piste skiing, thanks to abundant snowfall and extensive forests and trails. One of the most popular routes starts at Pizzo Groppera and finishes at Pian dei Larici, covering about 3 kilometers and dropping nearly 1,000 meters in altitude. In the Val di Lei, a highlight is the descent through the Angeloga Pass down to the village of Fraciscio. Every Saturday night, the resort opens several slopes for night skiing, particularly the ‘Pianello’ and ‘Montalto’ runs. Night-skiing tickets typically cost no more than about 10 euros, and the access gondola operates until 10:30 p.m.
