1. Delhi
Stay
About the destination: Situated on the banks of the river Yamuna and in the northern part of the country, Delhi is the capital city of India and the home of the Government. Delhi is a massive, chaotic city, full of contrasts. While Delhi embodies modern India in many ways, due to its extensive history, it boasts numerous ancient and medieval monuments, archaeological sites and significant remains, and is considered one of the oldest existing cities in the world. Delhi is split between the narrow, overcrowded lanes of Old Delhi, including its main street Chandni Chowk, where little has changed in recent times, and the broad, clean tree-lined streets of New Delhi. The government and its offices are located in New Delhi, the official capital, while most of its historic neighbourhoods and monuments are in Old Delhi. Delhi has inherited an astonishing number of magnificent monuments from various architectural periods and it's a delight to wander around this captivating metropolis. However, the main tourist attractions not to be missed are the Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb, the Qutub complex, the National Museum, the largest mosque in India Jama Masjid, the India Gate, Gandhi Smriti, Lodi Gardens and the Lotus Temple. Mysterious and enchanting, Delhi is today a bustling cosmopolitan city with trendy lounge bars, themed restaurants, nice shops and everything you would expect from a modern capital city. Delhi is a city of the present and future, but it is deeply rooted in history and has a lot to show for it.

2. Mumbai
Stay
About the destination: Chaotic, cosmopolitan Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is the commercial and cultural heart of India and its most dynamic city. The city's vibrant blend of cultures, ethnicities, religions, and languages makes it the most cosmopolitan city in India. Bollywood, or the Indian Hollywood, is based here in Mumbai, with hundreds of films produced every year in its studios. Mumbai is a city of contrasts. Its skyline's skyscrapers, the Gothic and Art Déco architecture from its colonial past, and the Indo-Saracenic buildings reflecting the city’s more traditional side give it an eclectic vibe that makes the city quite unique. There is plenty to see in Mumbai, but the main sights are concentrated in South Mumbai. The key attractions to visit in Mumbai include the Gateway of India on the seafront, where you can take a day trip to the famous Elephanta Caves, the Prince of Wales Museum, which houses many artefacts worth seeing, the Jehangir Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Modern Art, the Banganga Tank, the Walkeshwar temples, the Hanging Gardens, the Parsi Towers of Silence, Mahatma Gandhi's residence, now converted into a museum, and the Bhau Daji Lad Museum. Exotic Mumbai is a fantastic and exciting destination and India's most culturally active, lively, and happening city.

3. Kolkata
Stay
About the destination: Kolkata, formerly Calcutta, is the capital of West Bengal and the second-largest city in India after Mumbai. Extreme poverty mixes, often bewilderingly, with crumbling British Raj-era buildings, expansive gardens and historic colleges. Long regarded as India’s cultural capital, Kolkata continues to produce generations of poets, writers, filmmakers and Nobel Prize winners. The city stretches along the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, a tributary of the Ganges, with Howrah on the western bank. For visitors, the most relevant parts of Kolkata lie south of Howrah Bridge, around BBD Bagh and Chowringhee. Kolkata is a vast city with a huge amount to see, but some of the main sights include Eden Gardens, Fort William, Victoria Memorial, Nakhoda Mosque (the largest mosque in Kolkata), Shobhabajar Rajbari, Parashnath Jain Temple, and the Birla Temple, the biggest in the city and well worth a visit. If Bangalore is the Seattle of India, Kolkata is the subcontinent’s London. It’s an in-your-face city that both shocks and charms the unprepared visitor. If your trip only allows for one or two of India’s big cities, you should definitely consider adding Kolkata to your itinerary. Whether you love it or hate it, you won’t forget this city on the Hooghly.
