Tarvisio Italy

Tarvisio is a town and municipality in northeastern Italy, in the autonomous Friuli Venezia Giulia region. It lies in the Canal Valley (Val Canale), between the Carnic Alps and Karawanks to the north and the Julian Alps to the south. Located on the border with both Austria and Slovenia, Tarvisio and the nearby towns of Arnoldstein and Kranjska Gora form a cultural crossroads where Romance, Germanic, and Slavic Europe meet. Just west of the town center is a watershed dividing the Slizza creek, which flows into the Danube basin, from the Fella River, which flows into the Tagliamento and then the Adriatic Sea. Once part of Austria until 1919, Tarvisio is now a municipality of about 5,000 residents in the province of Udine and serves as a key border hub on the Venice–Vienna route.
