Urbino, Italy

Urbino Italy

Urbino is a fortified city located in the Marche region of Italy, southwest of Pesaro. It is recognized as a World Heritage Site due to its significant historical legacy of independent Renaissance culture, particularly under the patronage of Federico da Montefeltro, the Duke of Urbino from 1444 to 1482. The town, situated on a steep hillside, maintains much of its charming medieval appearance. It is home to the University of Urbino, established in 1506, and serves as the residence of the Archbishop of Urbino. Its most famous architectural structure is the Palazzo Ducale, which was reconstructed by Luciano Laurana.
