Salsomaggiore Terme Italy

Salsomaggiore Terme is a town and comune in northern Italy, located in the Province of Parma in the Emilia-Romagna region, at the foot of the Apennines. It is a popular spa town known for its strongly saline water. Because of its sodium content, the mineral water of Salsomaggiore is classified among saline waters, specifically of the brine-bromine-iodine type. It is a hypertonic, cold water drawn from artesian wells 800 to 1,200 meters (2,600 to 3,900 ft) deep, at a temperature of 16 °C (61 °F) and with a density of 16° on the Baumé scale (1 degree Baumé is equivalent to approximately 11 grams (0.39 oz) of salt per liter). The main focus of the town is its baths, especially the “terme” located in the town center. Since 2007, Salsomaggiore has hosted a European festival called Incontrarsi a Salsomaggiore, a celebration of art, music, and theater dedicated to women and their health. Notable attractions include the central piazza with its clothing shops, the main town center with a gelateria renowned throughout the area, and the countryside surrounding this valley town. The town is also characterized by its parks and its many villas and hotels, some of which (like the Grand Hotel Regina) have been used for important events such as Miss Italia, which the town hosted prominently until 2010. The two nearby villages, Salsominore and Tabiano, also have their own baths. Salsomaggiore Terme is a World Trade Center (WTC).
