Civitella Paganico Italy

Civitella Paganico is a municipality in the Province of Grosseto, in the Italian region of Tuscany. The area is characterized by agricultural land, the main driver of the local economy, interspersed with dense forest that supports a rich variety of plant and animal species. Civitella Paganico is also known for the Petriolo hot springs, which have attracted travelers for thousands of years. Human presence in Civitella Paganico likely dates back to the Paleolithic era, and the area preserves important Etruscan and Roman remains. In the Middle Ages, the territory was successively controlled by the Ardengheschi family, the Republic of Siena, and the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. As of 2013, the municipality has a population of 3,291 residents, about 15% of whom are foreigners. Civitella Paganico includes several small villages, the largest being Paganico, while the municipal seat is in Civitella Marittima. The municipality is also notable for an Etruscan tomb discovered intact in 2007, where the remains of 30 individuals were found in a small burial enclosure.
