Tarvisio Italy

Tarvisio (German and Friulian: Tarvis, Slovene: Trbiž) is a town in the north‑east of the autonomous Friuli Venezia Giulia region in Italy. The town lies in the Canal Valley (Val Canale), between the Carnic Alps and Karawanks to the north and the Julian Alps to the south. Sitting on the border with both Austria and Slovenia, Tarvisio and its neighbouring municipalities of Arnoldstein and Kranjska Gora form a tripoint between Romance, Germanic and Slavic Europe. The hill west of the town centre marks the watershed between the Slizza stream, a tributary of the Gail River in the Danube basin, and the Fella River, a tributary of the Tagliamento which flows into the Adriatic Sea. Tarvisio, together with the rest of the Canal Valley, was part of Austria until 1919. Tarvisio is a municipality of 5,074 inhabitants in the province of Udine. It became part of Italy in 1918. Tarvisio is a very important border town on the Venice–Vienna axis.
