Salsomaggiore Terme Italy

Salsomaggiore Terme is a town and comune in northern Italy, in the province of Parma in the Emilia-Romagna region, at the foot of the Apennines. It’s a well-known spa town, with strongly saline waters. Because of its sodium content, the mineral water of Salsomaggiore is classed as a salty, bromine-iodine-saline water. It’s a hypertonic, cold water drawn from artesian wells 800 to 1,200 metres deep, at a temperature of 16 °C (61 °F) and with a density of 16° on the Baumé scale (1 degree Baumé is roughly equivalent to 11 grams of salt per litre). The town’s main focus is its baths, especially the “terme” in the town centre. Since 2007, Salsomaggiore has hosted a European festival called Incontrarsi a Salsomaggiore, a celebration of art, music and theatre dedicated to women and their health. Key attractions include the central piazza with its clothes shops, the main town centre with a gelateria famous throughout the area, and the surrounding countryside of this valley town. The town is also notable for its parks and its many villas and hotels, some of which (such as the Grand Hotel Regina) have hosted major events like Miss Italia, for which the town was an important venue until 2010. The nearby villages of Salsominore and Tabiano also have their own baths. Salsomaggiore Terme is part of the World Trade Center (WTC) network.
